Eat This, Not That: Salt Edition

iron minerals salt

As you know from my previous posts, salt is ESSENTIAL for good health. It’s helpful for:
▪️
🧂Lowering stress
🧂Helping you sleep
🧂Healthy blood pressure
🧂Increasing womb healing (that’s you mama bears)
🧂And so much more!
▪️
BUT as with most things, not all salt is created equal.
▪️
There are many, many, many salt options on the market.🤯 Here are some pros and cons about a few of them.
▪️
⛰️Himalayan Salt: Unrefined and usually comes from salt mines in Pakistan. This beautiful salt contains ~98% sodium chloride and 84 other trace minerals. However, because it’s rock salt, it’s very good at accumulating toxins and metals like iron. In fact, RUST is what gives it it’s pink color!
▪️
🏞️Redmond’s Real Salt: Unrefined and harvested from an ancient underground salt deposit in Utah. Contains 60+ trace minerals, but remember pink = RUST! And the more color = the more impurities.
▪️
🌊Celtic Sea Salt: Unrefined and comes from evaporated ocean water usually along the coast of France. Contains ~33% sodium chloride and the most magnesium out of all these options, but it also contains the most iron as well.
▪️
🧲Table Salt: Ultra-refined and contains anti-caking agents like sodium silicoaluminate which contains aluminum or sodium ferrocyanide which contains cyanide and iron. These are usually iodized as well (fortified with iodine), which I’m not a huge fan of either.
▪️
I personally don’t use the above salts mainly because I know how prevalent iron overload really is. But like with anything, you have to pick and choose your battles!
▪️
I personally choose to invest in high-quality salts. Instead of the above salts, I use @maldonsalt and @crucialfour .
▪️
What kind of salt do you prefer?
