Impotence isn’t a rare thing anymore. A study published in 2024 found that 24.2% of men in the United States experience erectile dysfunction (ED).
Other sources say ED may be as high as 50%. π
Research has shown that wearing polyester underwear can negatively impact male fertility and even lead to impotence. Here’s why:

One study found that long-term exposure to polyester underwear was associated with an increased risk of impotence. Considering that an estimated 30 million men in the U.S. experience erectile dysfunction, this is worth paying attention to.
π Reduced Sperm Count & Motility
Men who wore polyester underwear experienced a significant decrease in sperm count and motility compared to those wearing cotton or no underwear at all.
π Polyester & Static Electricity
Studies suggest that polyester fabrics generate static electricity, which can disrupt the electrical balance in the testes. This interference may reduce testosterone levels and sperm production over time.
It’s important to mention that some polyester fabrics may be treated with PFAS chemicals during manufacturing to make them water-resistant, stain-resistant, or durable. PFAS exposure can negatively impact male fertility by disrupting hormone levels, reducing sperm quality, and impairing reproductive function.
Polyester underwear is also not as breathable as other materials, trapping in heat, which negatively affects male fertility by raising scrotal temperature—this can impair sperm production and reduce sperm quality.
