Why Copper is Important for Fertility

copper fertility iron pregnancy ttc

The mature egg cell contains 100,000-600,000 mitochondria. Just for comparison, the average cell has ~100 mitochondria. An average of ~300,000 mitochondria for each mature egg cell is quite the feat!
▪️
Mitochondria are what make energy for our cells and by that regard, our whole body. To do that, a few very important things they need are fuel, thyroid hormone and...copper.
▪️
I talk a lot about how copper is critical for energy production. The sheer number of mitochondria in a single mature egg cell should be a good indicator for just how important copper is to fertility.
▪️
Any client I work with on preconception gets lots of bioavailable copper in her diet.
