Vitamin C may have progesterone-like effects.

progesterone vitamin c

Today I want to highlight a few ways Vitamin â’¸ supports our reproductive health and fertility.
*
In her book, “Natural Fertility,” Francesca Naish describes its high concentration in the ovaries. “Vitamin C is necessary for the production of sex hormones; a continuing pregnancy is dependent upon a rich supply. The ovaries are very rich in vitamin â’¸, suggesting a strong need for its presence.”
*
Israel et al discuss how Vitamin â’¸ is also found in high amounts in the corpus luteum, which is what releases progesterone after we ovulate. They describe how the more Vitamin â’¸ in the corpus luteum, the higher the progesterone levels. “It has been shown by several investigators that the corpus luteum has a high content of ascorbic acid, the quantity of which parallels the degree of luteal development. The remarkable correlation between the concentration of ascorbic acid and the growth of the corpus luteum is best exemplified in the difference between the nonpregnant and the pregnant animal. The corpus luteum of pregnancy contains twice as much ascorbic acid as that found in the mature corpus luteum of non-pregnancy. These findings suggested to some investigators the possible existence of a causal relationship between the rate of growth of the corpus luteum and its content of ascorbic acid.” (Please note, Vitamin C and Ascorbic Acid are used interchangeably in this research. Here, Ascorbic Acid actually means Vitamin â’¸.)
*
Vitamin â’¸ is also incredibly important for C-ollagen formation. Our needs for Glycine, a key component of Collagen, skyrocket during pregnancy. Remember, baby’s growing, but so are we!
*
These are just a few ways Vitamin â’¸ can be helpful to our reproductive health. Hopefully you find this as interesting as I do. :)
