5 fitness rules that have kept me in shape for years, but without sacrificing my fertility.

Do you want to stay fit but you’re scared that your workouts will sabotage your fertility?
Trying to balance your desire to feel good in your body while also optimizing your fertility for pregnancy can feel daunting. But it doesn’t have to be.
For years, I have been working out in a way that makes me feel good both inside and out, but also in a way that supports my fertility, keeps my cycles regular, maintains healthy progesterone levels, helped me get pregnant quickly, and helped me stay comfortable during pregnancy.
Here are the 5 fitness rules that have kept me in shape for years, but without sacrificing my fertility:
1 - Prioritize Strength Training. Building muscle is important for so many reasons, including supporting a healthy metabolic function (which you imprint onto baby), hormonal response and blood sugar response (where my PCOS girlies at?!). Also #murves. 🍑
2 - No Long Workout Sessions. I keep my workouts to around 30 minutes, no longer than 45, to prevent my body from going “catabolic” and breaking itself down for fuel, which isn’t conducive state if you’re TTC.
3 - Take Rest Days. This is where your body can really get the chance to repair itself. And too frequent workouts can start to push your body into a perpetual survival state, which is the opposite of what you want if you’re trying to optimize fertility.
4 - Properly Engage Your Pelvic Floor. This has the bonus of helping you optimize blood flow to your pelvis (hello eggies!), but can also help reduce the chances of leaking, prolapse, diastasis recti and tearing.
5 - Sync Movement with Your Cycle. If you like intense workouts they can totally be part of your routine, but getting in touch with your body and monthly can help you understand when you can press the gas and when it may be best to back off.
