Zinc Supplements: An Alternative View

minerals multi-vitamins supplements zinc

Another one I’ve been getting lots of questions about!
🔸
Zinc is important for many things in the body, including:
🦠Immune system function
🔥Carbohydrate metabolism
🐥Normal growth and development
🤕Wound healing
🧬Synthesis of DNA
🌷Fertility
➕And more
🔸
But that doesn’t mean we should pop like them like candy like many people do these days.
🔸
As I’ve mentioned before, minerals work together. So supplementing anything in isolation is a huge risk factor for creating more imbalance and deficiency.
🔸
Reason #1. Zinc competes with other nutrients, including Copper and Calcium, in the body for absorption. Zinc and Copper. specifically, share receptor sites which can become “occupied” with Zinc supplementation. While Zinc is important, Copper is arguably way more important, as it helps us create energy and governs our metabolism.
🔸
Reason #2. Zinc supplementation triggers the synthesis of metallothionein, a protein that binds Copper at 1000X strength. This can also lead to Copper deficiency. Again, Copper is incredibly important, as it governs our metabolism, which governs everything else.
🔸
I much prefer natural sources of Zinc like oysters, red meat, beef liver, shellfish, dairy and eggs. These foods have Zinc and the proper cofactors that allow it to do its job correctly in the body.
🔸
It’s important to note that animal foods are a superior source of Zinc, as the Zinc found in plant sources are bound to Phytic Acid which prevents its absorption.
🔸
What’s your favorite way to get Zinc?
