Each mature egg cell has an average of 300,000 mitochondria.

The mitochondria are the “powerhouses” of our cells. These organelles are the site of most ATP aka energy production. It could be argued that the more energy an organ needs, the more mitochondria its cells will have.

To put it into perspective, heart cells have an average of 5,000 mitochondria. Mature egg cells? Anywhere from about 100,000-600,000 mitochondria. 🤯

Mitochondria don’t run off thin air. They need fuel and thyroid hormone. They also need Copper, which is a critical mineral involved in ATP production.

The sheer number of mitochondria in a single mature egg cell should be a good indicator for just how important Copper and thyroid hormone are to fertility.

When mitochondria cannot create energy, we run into issues. When working with preconception clients, these things are very high on the list to address.

I’ll be talking about this, testing, and more in my upcoming course. You can sign up to get updates via the link in my bio.
