Are Low-Calorie Sweeteners Bad for You?

blood sugar sweets

Do you use stevia or other sugar substitutes because they’re “better” for your blood sugar?
▪️
Today, there’s an infinite number of zero-calorie sweeteners to choose from, including:
▪️
Aspartame
Acesulfame Potassium
Aspartame-Acesulfame Salt
Cyclamate
Erythritol
Glycerol
Glycyrrhizin
Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate (HSH)
Isomalt
Lactitol
Maltitol
Mannitol
Monk Fruit
Neotame
Polydextrose
Saccharin
Sorbitol
Stevia
Sucralose
Tagatose
Xylitol
▪️
But these calorie-free sweeteners might actually be sabotaging your health. How?
▪️
Regardless of whether or not the sweetener has calories, it STILL triggers an insulin response. As you recall from my previous posts, insulin works to lower blood sugar. And low blood sugar triggers a cascading stress response with many consequences that work AGAINST the metabolism.
▪️
Plus, these sweeteners are often combined with other artificial ingredients that wreak even more havoc.
▪️
In fact, consumption of artificial sweeteners is connected with an increased risk for:
▪️
↗️Increased sugar cravings
⏬Glucose intolerance
↗️Weight gain
💉Diabetes
Overactive immune system
🦠Gut issues (dysbiosis + endotoxin)
▪️
If I want something sweet, I’m going to give my body what it wants - the real thing.
▪️
What’s your favorite sweetener?
