Give yourself Grace

gestational morning sickness pre-eclampsia preconception pregnancy ttc

It’s not uncommon to feel a mix of emotions during pregnancy. Elation. Overwhelm. Confusion. Fear. Excitement. Pure joy. It can really be a roller coaster. Especially if pregnancy decides to throw us a curveball.

In this corner of social media, we’re a community of curious folks that want to take charge of their health. And I LOVE this.

While we peek into different and maybe lesser-known perspectives on various topics, it’s important to remember that what you read on social media isn’t personalized and doesn’t necessarily apply to you.

For example, If I talk about some interesting excerpts or research about Vitamin B6 and morning sickness, it doesn't mean that if you’re experiencing morning sickness you have a Vitamin B6 deficiency.

Of course, I don’t want to undermine anyone’s feelings or previous experiences. That’s not what this is about.

But when we start to internalize things that don’t necessarily apply to our own personal context, it can sometimes make us feel...unnecessarily bad. We might feel triggered. Or shame. Guilt. Blame. Like we’ve done something wrong.

And that’s never the intention when I share information. It’s simply to provide new avenues to explore. And foremost, hope. Hope for those who felt hopeless. In the dark. Ignored. Brushed off.

What I’m trying to say is, when digesting information from my account - or any account on social media - try to approach it from a neutral perspective. A few questions to ask yourself while taking it in: Do I care about this? Should I care about this? Decide for yourself, take it for what it’s worth, and continue on your journey.

Another reminder. Pregnancy can be a bit of a black box and sometimes the things we experience are mysterious and elusive. Sometimes the rhyme or reason can’t be explained away. While it’s human nature to look for patterns and reasons as to why something may have happened, let’s not add onto the confusion or stress by blaming ourselves. And let’s definitely not let it keep us from moving forward or doing what’s right for us.

Some food for thought!
