I LOVE FA because it not only helps you truly get in touch with your body, but because it actually helps safeguard your fertility.

We're only fertile for a fraction of our cycle. Unlike other forms of contraction that you have to take 100% of the time, especially hormonal ones, FA doesn’t have any nasty, unwanted side effects. And if done correctly, it can have a 95-99% efficacy rate — more effective than the 91% the combination pill provides — according to Dr. Jolene Brighten in “Beyond the Pill.”

How does it work?

“Fertility Awareness (FA) allows you to determine which days of your cycle are fertile and infertile. [It] involves tracking your three main fertile signs: cervical mucus (CM), basal body temperature (BBT), and cervical position, and together, these signs help you identify your fertile window.” — Lisa Hendrickson-Jack

💧Cervical Mucus: is what keeps sperm alive and changes throughout your cycle
🌡️Basal Body Temperature: spikes post-ovulation to keep your eggs warm
📏Cervix Position: opens and closes, and changes position depending on fertility

These three signs together are a sure-fire way to understand whether or not you’re fertile, so you can “get jiggy” or abstain, depending on whether your goal is pregnancy or contraception.
