What is Estrogen Dominance?

I’ve been getting a lot of requests to talk about estrogen dominance, so here it goes!
▪️
Estrogen is a hormone that both females AND males produce. There are actually four types: estrone, estradiol, estriol and estetrol.
▪️
Many people, both women and men, struggle with estrogen dominance today. There are a few factors:
▪️
Poor liver function
Excessive stress
Poor metabolic function and/or hypothyroidism
Xenoestrogens (estrogen-like compounds like plastics and pesticides)
Overconsumption of nuts, seeds, legumes, grains, etc, processed foods and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs)
Use of estrogen-containing medications like birth control and hormone replacement therapy
▪️
When I talk about estrogen dominance, I’m talking about the amount of estrogen in the body relative to other sex hormones.
▪️
It’s virtually impossible to be “estrogen-deficient,” as our fat cells have the ability to produce estrogen all by themselves.
▪️
Out of balance, estrogen is a STRESS hormone, having the ability to trigger stress or enhance stress. Excess estrogen can slow down our thyroid function, increase cortisol, suppress our immune system, slow down digestion, activate hormones like prolactin and serotonin and more.
▪️
Symptoms of estrogen dominance include:
▪️
Iron overload!!!
Headaches or migraines
Depression or anxiety
Memory problems
Allergies
PMS
Heavy periods
Irregular cycles
Breast tenderness
Hair loss
Cold hands and feet
Night sweats or hot flashes
Poor sleep
Fatigue
Bloating and digestive issues
Bacterial overgrowth
Skin rashes or acne
Excessive cellulite or weight in the hips
Fibroids, cysts and other kinds of growths
Endometriosis
Low Libido
Infertility
Gynecomastia
▪️
How can you detoxify excess estrogen?
▪️
First avoid or swap the things that are adding to your estrogen load, like:
▪️
Personal care products
Makeup
Cleaning products
Birth control
Non-organic food
Unfiltered water
Plastic water bottles
Excessive beans, grains, legumes, nuts and seeds
PUFAs
▪️
Support estrogen detoxification with:
▪️
Eating metabolic foods every 3-4 hours
Lower stress to boost progesterone production
Eat a raw carrot 1-2X per day
Drink OJ
Consume high-quality protein (VERY impt for detox)
