What’s more interesting than the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis? The ovarian-adrenal-thyroid (OAT) axis!

We hear about the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis all the time. But a more interesting ‘axis’ IMO is the ovarian-adrenal-thyroid (OAT) axis.🌺🍊🦋

The OAT axis is like “a three-legged stool, with each gland representing a leg. When any one leg is imbalanced, the entire system is affected and begins to falter.”

This is why stressors can have such far-reaching effects (see my ‘sources of stress’ post). Emotional, physical, environmental, chemical...they impact us in multiple ways.

This is why when I take on a new female client, I look at her as a whole. Period problems? Adrenal fatigue? Thyroid issues? 99.99% of the time it’s more than just a singular issue.

The female body is far more sophisticated than most give it credit for. This is why when we symptom-chase, we end up playing whack-a-mole with our health. Because the stool (the axis), won’t be able to stand up right until it’s addressed in a holistic way.
