With Every Birth, a Mother Loses ~10% of Her Minerals.

With every birth, a mother loses ~10% of her minerals. That’s A LOT when “most women are nutritionally deficient during childbearing years” and mineral requirements go UP during pregnancy.
▪️
Pregnancy is an extremely stressful state. It’s the most athletic event any female will ever undergo. This is especially problematic in an already copper-deficient and iron-overloaded mother, because copper plays a very important role in a healthy pregnancy.
▪️
Copper is vital to two critical proteins during pregnancy:
⚛️Ceruloplasmin - contains 8 copper atoms - regulates serotonin via amine oxidase, turning it on and off
⚛️Zyklopen makes sure iron gets properly recycled between mother and baby
▪️
In the 60s, they used to TEST copper and Cp levels, but this is no longer a practice. What’s sad and ironic is that the US has the worst maternal mortality rate in the developed world.
▪️
If there is not enough Cp to turn off serotonin, it builds up and mother can go into a spontaneous abortion. Children can also be born with a tendency towards autism.
▪️
Copper transfer from mother to baby also happens during the third trimester. If there isn’t enough copper to go around, there may be no copper (let alone other minerals) to transfer.
▪️
Copper status is not only important for baby #1, but for subsequent babies. “...unless the mother gives herself ample time (generally at least three years) and nutrients for her body to fully replenish itself, child number two may not be as healthy as his older sibling...compared to their older sibling, they grew up in a relatively malnourished environment in utero."
▪️
Nutrient status during pregnancy doesn’t just affect the current generation, but future ones. It’s been observed in history that “the effects of a pregnant woman’s diet can ripple, at the least, into the next two generations.”
▪️
It’s clear that a mother’s nutrient status is important for BOTH the well-being of mother and baby. Our ancestors had it down. They prepped before the baby and took long breaks in between to replenish, for the safety of everybody. It might be in our best interest to take a cue from them. :)
