Will eating beef liver contribute to iron overload?

copper iron iron overload liver minerals

One of the most common questions I get is:

“If beef liver has Iron, won’t it cause Iron overload?”

Yes, beef liver contains Iron. But the BEAUTY of beef liver is that it’s an incredibly rich source of nutrients, like Vitamin A and Copper, that allow Iron to be utilized properly.

In fact, almost 100 years ago researchers discovered that consuming beef liver cured anemia.

Beef liver also contains:

⇴Vitamin Ɖ

⇴Vitamin E

⇴Vitamin K

⇴Choline

⇴Vitamin B12

⇴Vitamin B9 (Folate)

⇴Vitamin B1

⇴Vitamin B2

⇴Vitamin B3

⇴Vitamin B5

⇴Calcium

⇴Magnesium

⇴Selenium

⇴Zinc

⇴Phosphorous

IMO, this is why nature always wins. It delivers almost every nutrient packaged together for you in a gift basket, in the perfect ratios.

Of course, there are other things we can do to minimize Iron absorption from liver like drinking coffee or raw milk (see my other posts about this).

Enjoy!
